Hey guys!

How's the report going dudes? I work be in on Monday cos frankly the journey is a pain when the class is so pointless at the moment. I'm working on my part of the report at home and will have it ready by Wed or Thurs so we can put it together. Please give me updates of how its going ok?

Later!

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

hey guys the model is due on monday!!! this one we need to start asap, i have to work thurs night until prob 10, but i will come in then, you guys should start as soon as you can on thurs, i suggest stuarts or nicks place?

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

There are 21 separate points that the report suggests we cover in our report.

I suggest we simply take seven parts each.

Jason- first seven
Cesca - second seven
Craig - Third seven

Please put in as many pics as you can, reference everything and put your name on each page.  Then a few days before it's due we'll all meet up and edit it.

Thanks.

THE BIG REPORT

May I be frank and say that I'm not that great with reports but Nick is and I'm pretty good with models, so, Nick, can you and I maybe swap jobs?

STU, JAMES, CRAIG redesign the units

Monday, August 25, 2008

Select a unit???? A102 ???

If we are to select just one unit as hilary as suggested in the announcements on dso, we should pick one from the second floor (A102) as the units on this flooor have a set of two stairs in them. We need to work this out quickly, perhaps everyone can look at ur allocated section and how it applies to one of these units and then tommorrow (wednesday) we can meet in the afternoon to collaborate into one report.
Craig

Look Here!

if anyone has logged onto dso you would have seen the announcment that Hilary posted saying that we should attempt to upgrade one flat to met a range of disabilities...i have already done some of this but maybe we should get toether and focus just on this task as most of the other sections in the BCA are quite irrelevant and we could get a much better report going if we all focused on the one task. I have already done the bathroom of one of the units, and the lifts, entrance and stairs on the larger scale. let me know what you guys think.

James

CHANGE OF PLANS!

Unfortunately we've all been doing the wrong BCA sections.

We aren't supposed to be doing PART F, so stop what you're doing.

We've re-appointed sections-

Ja - D 3.1
Nick - D 3.0, Editing
Craig - D 3.2, D 3.8
James - D 3.3 & 3.4
Ash - D3.5
Cesca - D3.6
Stew - D3.7 & F 2.4

It was commented that we need more pics and diagrams.  Since the sections are so small it should be easy.  ALSO they said we need to pay more attention to the Australian Standards references.

ALL parts due by Wed night 7pm.

JAMES!!

Hey Dude,

We forgot to give you a section from the BCA so we're giving you Nick's section F1.08 to F1.13.

And to EVERYONE,

we all need to Email our completed sections to Nick by Wednesday Evening on nmwill@deakin.edu.au

pretty please!
actually please give me something to do as mine was way way way way too short and easy...
also if comeone could please just have a quick look at part C2.3 fo rme at let me know if you think it applies because it says it is refering to large compartments which i do not think apply to our building.
hey guys just wondering if someone could post what they have done as a rough guideline of how to put mine. and also if anyone is overwhelmed with their tasks i could help becasue both of the tasks that were added to mine have either been done or don;t apply. cheers. james.

SUMMARY OF 2.7, 2.9

Building is TYPE A.CLASS 3

2.7 : Separation by fire walls

A) The CONSTRUCTION of a fire wall must be in accordance with the following factors:

1.“The fire wall must have the relevant FRL that has been prescribed by Specification C1. 1 for each of the adjoining parts”

Note that Specification C1.1 presecribes that…..
- The mimimum type of fire resisting construction of a buliding has exceptions for certain class 2, class 3 or class 9c buildings in c1.5 and also has exceptions for open spectator stands and indoor sports stadiums found in c1.7

Buildings with a rise of 4+ stories that are class 2,3 or 9 require class A construction
Buildings with a rise of 4+ stories that are class 5,6.7,8 require class A construction
Buildings with a rise of 3 stories that are class 2,3 or 9 require class A construction
Buildings with a rise of 3 stories that are class 5,6,7,8 require class B construction
Buildings with a rise of 2 stories that are class 2,3 or 9 require class B construction
Buildings with a rise of 2 stories that are class 5,6,7,8 require class C construction
Buildings with a rise of 1 stories that are class 2,3 or 9 require class C construction
Buildings with a rise of 1 stories that are class 5,6,7,8 require class C construction

- If the FRL for each of the adjoing parts are different then you must use the FRL that is the greatest (to accommodate the maximum possible).
- The only reason that a FRL would be allowed to be lower is if it is on the carpark side of a building

2.“Any openings in the fire wall must comply with the Deemed-to-Satisfy-Provisons of part c3”

-Deemed-To-Satisfy-Provisions of part c3 state that….. opening in building elements required to be fire resistiant include:
> doorways
> windows (including any associated fanlight)
> infil panels
> fixed or openable glazed areas

Where protection is deemed required…
Windows/ Doorways/ other openings> need to be protected with internal or external wall wetting sprinklers

B.) SEPARATION OF B UILDINGS
Buildings can be treated as “separate fire compartments” and therefore “separate buildings” if….
- a fire wall extends thru all parts and stories of a wall therefore fully dividing it
- the fire wall is covered thru the underside of the roof covering
- there are a few other specifications for this if the wall doesn’t meet up with the roof
******See this section for details in 2.7

2.9

-for type A construction (what the building is) “the floor between the two adjoining parts must have a FRL of no less than that described in c1.1 and no less than that prescribe for the lower of the two stories.
(see the table in 2.7 summary for story requirements, above)

Ahh. Where is the sheet with all the sections that we have to do on it?
Can't find it anywhere on DSO, but alot of the links are not working for me on dso, could some one please post my sections which are C 2.3 and 2.4. Thanks. James.

stu

Francesca has the details to post of everyone jason. Just to help people (cos it took me an hour just to figure out) here are some details about the building ;

- Class 3 building (other residential)
- Type A construction
- FRL (fire resistance level)

On another note we may have to delegate more sections (maybe) to everyone because i think there are a lot more cluases we didnt cover because they were not on that sheet we printed and went off.
We can discuss on wednesday.
Hi!
Can someone please post all the phone numbers and emails of the team and the list of designated sections we're supposed to be investigating. Thanks.
